Information on Full-time Teaching in Belize

Because of our volunteer teaching experience, people sometimes ask us about the possibility of becoming a full-time teacher in Belize. Unfortunately, it is not easy for a non-Belizean to get a job as a teacher in Belize. The Belizean Ministry of Education officials we've talked to say they actually have more Belizean teachers than available jobs, so they could not justify hiring non-Belizean teachers.

It would be difficult to secure a teaching position in Belize unless you teach a subject for which there are few qualified Belizean teachers. These openings would most likely be at the high school level in math, science, computers, etc.

One Ministry official suggested it may be possible to find out about openings by contacting the Belize Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (BAPSS). You can ask the Ministry of Education about contacting BAPSS or other details about the possibility of teaching in Belize. The Ministry might also be able to suggest opportunities for long-term volunteer (as opposed to a paid) teaching in Belize. Contact the Belizean Ministry of Education at:
