How YOU Can Help!
Donations!
Cash donations
TFABB is a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible. Because TFABB is a small, all-volunteer organization and receives many donated school supplies and shipping services, we are able to keep organizational costs to a bare minimum. We do not have an office and the Board donates funds to cover our minimal overhead expenses (e.g., copying and postage for fundraising), so all money raised goes directly to the projects in Belize. You may send a check made out to "Teachers for a Better Belize" to 13606 Peacock Farm Road, St. Louis, Missouri, 63131. TFABB operates on a miniscule budget... Every donation helps!
Donate Miles
We can use donated air tickets if you have frequent flyer miles. Typically 35,000 miles will allow one of our teacher volunteers to fly RT to Belize, and this will save us about $650 (thats a big chunk in our small budget). The airlines that currently fly to Belize are: American, Continental, Delta, and USAir. Continental and Delta are also linked to American Express miles.Volunteer!
Teacher Volunteers: During most summers, we bring ten or so experienced North American K-8 teachers to Belize for one to two weeks to partner with Belizean teachers in presenting lessons at the teacher-training workshop. We currently have all volunteer spaces filled for Summer 2007.
Construction Volunteers (no experience necessary!): Several times we have brought North American volunteers (not necessarily teachers) to Belize for about a week to partner with Mayan villagers in school-related construction projects. We don't organize construction projects every year and we don't currently have any planned for the coming year. To be notified the next time we organize a construction trip (possibly in the next two or three years), email us at .

Some information on paid teaching in Belize
Students sorting donated books and supplies to be distributed to schools.Hold a book drive!
Belizean schools need children's story books and novels for all levels (pre-K through high school). Belize uses English in all of its schools, so this makes things easier. We only ask that you try to avoid books that are very specific to U.S. culture (e.g,, U.S. history, holidays, TV shows, etc). Of course, used books in good condition are perfectly acceptable. Contact us for more information.
Shipping Note: If your school or organization would like to hold a book drive, all we ask is that you can pay to send the boxes of books to our shipper in Miami. You do not need to worry about sending the books all the way to Belize! Please note that we make shipments only once a year (in June) to cut down on shipping and customs costs, so you will need to ship your boxes of books or supplies to Miami in late May.
