How YOU Can Help!

Donations!
 Cash donations
TFABB is a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible. We rely on the donations of many individuals. Because TFABB is a small, all-volunteer organization and receives many donated school supplies and shipping services, we are able to keep organizational costs to a bare minimum. We do not have an office and the Board donates funds to cover our minimal overhead expenses (e.g., copying and postage for fundraising), so all money raised goes directly to the projects in Belize.

Donate

Donate online, or mail a check to "Teachers for a Better Belize" 13606 Peacock Farm Road, St. Louis, Missouri, 63131-1232. TFABB operates on a minuscule budget... Every donation helps!

 Donate Miles
We can use donated air tickets if you have frequent flyer miles. Typically 35,000 miles will allow one of our teacher volunteers to fly RT to Belize, and this will save us about $650 (that’s a big chunk in our small budget). The airlines that currently fly to Belize are: American, Continental, Delta, and USAir. Continental and Delta are also linked to American Express miles.

Volunteer! (Note: Our volunteer group is full for 2009)
Teacher Volunteers: During most summers (late July/early August), we bring eight or so experienced North American preschool and K-8 teachers to Belize for one to two weeks to partner with Belizean teachers in presenting lessons at the teacher-training workshop. We currently have all volunteer spaces filled for Summer 2008.

Construction Volunteers (no experience necessary!): Several times we have brought North American volunteers (not necessarily teachers) to Belize for about a week to partner with Mayan villagers in school-related construction projects. We don't organize construction projects every year, and we don't currently have any planned for the coming year. To be notified the next time we organize a construction trip (possibly in the next two or three years), email us at .

Boxes of donated books to be distributed.

Hold a book drive!
Belizean schools need children's story books and novels for all levels (pre-K through high school). Teachers and schools can also use dictionaries and other fact and resource books. Over 10,000 books have been collected and donated!*

Belize uses English in all of its schools, so this makes things easier. We only ask that you try to avoid books that are very specific to U.S. culture (e.g, U.S. history, holidays, TV shows, sports stars, movie stars, etc). Of course, used books in good condition are perfectly acceptable. Contact us for more information.

Shipping Note: If your school or organization would like to hold a book drive, we ask that you pay to send the boxed books to our shipper in Miami. (You do not need to worry about sending the books all the way to Belize!) Please note that in order to keep costs low, we make shipments once a year, in June, so you will need to send your books to Miami in late May. Please contact us for more information.

(At this time, we only ship books to Belize because they do not incur duties or taxes. We cannot accept other schools supplies because they would incur expensive customs duties and import taxes.)
